Kantar awarded national radio measurement currency service in Sweden

10 October 2019

Stockholm, 10th October 2019: Kantar, the world’s leading data, insights and consulting company, is today announcing that it has secured the contract to deliver the radio ratings currency in Sweden for the next four years.

This announcement builds on Kantar’s strong relationship with the Swedish radio industry, having provided a radio ratings service in Sweden since 2005.

As part of this new service, Kantar will issue 1,500 panellists with a personal RateOnAir Meter – developed and operated by Médiamétrie in France - and undertake CATI interviews with over 30,000 panellists per year over the four-year period.

The service will deliver minute-by-minute ratings across Sweden’s national radio networks whether live or time shift on FM, web or DAB platforms. Measurement of local radio using the CATI panel will deliver ratings of local radio stations with five-minutes granularity.

Integrated to the service is a unique headphone modelling solution introduced in Sweden in 2018 together with new data science solutions efficiently combining the two measurements. This unique research design supports the creation of a unified currency of local and national radio – making the Swedish radio market one of the most advanced in the world.

The new service will begin 1 August 2020 and is ready made to incorporate technical measurement of podcast and on demand audio.

Commenting on the announcement, Christer Modig, CEO NENT Group Radio ABstated, “We are pleased to have achieved a measurement of radio listening that is future-proof and can capture radio listening in an increasingly complex world. By showing a unified picture of radio listening - regardless of platform - I am convinced that our customers will see the medium of radio as an even more relevant advertising medium, while at the same time giving us the opportunity to more precisely drive our own program strategy into the future.”

Yvonne Pernodd, CEO Kantar Sweden added, “I’m delighted to be continuing our long-standing relationship with the Swedish radio industry with this unique new radio ratings service which combines Kantar’s expertise in audience measurement with Médiamétrie’s technology in order to deliver a world-class solution for the market.”

Benoît Cassaigne, Executive Vice President Médiamétrie completed “We are thrilled to once again work alongside Kantar to collaborate on such an exciting radio audience measurement service partly based on one of our innovative technologies. Our RateOnAir meters will automatically capture listening of radio or podcasts wherever the panellists are - at home, at work or travelling - for a fully consumer-centric measurement approach.”
