Innovation & leadership are needed to maintain its position
Recent years have seen the competition for share of eyeballs increasing from players such as Disney+, Apple TV+ and TikTok. As a result, YouTube has seen its power share slip in its core USA market. In the Kantar BrandZ 2024 Most Valuable Global Brands, Youtube holds the number 31 position, with TikTok on rank 35.
The platform has turned to innovation to defend and revitalise its brand. YouTube shorts was launched in July 2021. It hosts user content much like YouTube's primary service, but limits pieces to 60 seconds in length. Since its launch, it has accumulated over 5 trillion views.
